Making 2010 Your Best Year Ever

Say hello to your new mentality for 2010. No matter how many years you have lived on earth , you should always want the coming year to be your best year ever. Hopefully you had a great 2009. Either way, we have a few things that will help you be better off in the new year!
Grade Yourself
How did you do in 09? Take a critical look at the key areas in your life and ask yourself how it went. This is also a good time to speak with your close friends, as they can give you an outside perspective. What went well for you? What didn’t go so well? Its totally OK if things didn’t go perfectly or as good as you wanted them to be. What wouldn’t be OK is lying to yourself about it. Correctly identifying your individual areas of weakness is key to your long term development as a person in control of their life.
Set Goals for yourself
When you figure out how you did, set goals to help guide you towards a better year! Look for something corresponding to your areas of improvement and create a target to go for.
This goal should be specific to the area you want to improve in. It should be measurable so you can know if you meet it. Your goals should be action based ie “I WILL DO THIS”. Notice the word try does not appear. The goals should be reachable, obviously an d they should be time sensitive. You can give yourself a full year if need be for any of the goals for 2010.
We all have different goals in our lives so don’t be limited in what you want to set as your goals. Whatever you do decide on should fit in this framework as it will give you a higher likelihood of reaching your goals. When you finally have your goals ready to go, write them down on paper and post them in a place that you will see every day. My personal favorite location is the bathroom mirror because I see them every day without fail. The constant mental reminder from reading them will help keep you on track and focused even when you aren’t particularly thinking about your goals.
Take 20 minutes this holiday season and map out your goals. I dare you to have your best year ever!!

Ahmad,
Great post and very timely. I think that we really do have to set goals for 2010 and also make a point to review those goals. I think one point you really nailed it on is the idea of “I will” rather than trying. I think the key is a daily review of the goals that you “will accomplish”
